Position Title: Welder/Production Associate
Department: Contract Manufacturing Services Production
Reports to: Contract Manufacturing Services Supervisor

Position Summary

The Welder/Production Associate is a combination role where welding skills are primary and production skills are secondary.  In the welding role, a person is to prepare and assemble metal components into fixtures using hand and pneumatic tooling. Making sure quality expectations are met for maximum safety and efficiency. Applying various welding techniques (RSW, GTAW, & GMAW) in alliance with qualified WPS. Welding qualification may be required.

In the production role, a person is to run parts using laser systems assuring maximum safety and efficiency. 

Both roles require inspection of parts to verify conformance to customer specifications.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Assemble and weld components into a final assembly.
  2. Excavate porosity and repair weld as necessary.
  3. Measure, document, and ensure the component’s cost, quality, and delivery are met.
  4. Operate on custom-designed, standard laser machinery to process material or parts per customer specifications.
  5. Perform quality inspections of finished parts.
  6. Starting and shutting down machinery using written work instructions.
  7. Able to shut down machinery in the event of safety issues.
  8. Change gas cylinders and perform table maintenance as directed.
  9. Package and route parts to shipping
  10. Perform cleanup duties as required.
  11. Complete the required paperwork.
  12. Occasionally required to drive and operate a forklift.
  13. Various other duties as directed by the Supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school education or GED.
  • Perform and pass a welding qualification per a WPS.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post High School education with a focused curriculum in SMAW, GMAQ, GTAW.
  • Welding experience using SMAW, GMAW & GTAW techniques.
  • Experience in metal fabrication following an AWS code (ex. D1.1, D17.1)
  • Perform finishing operations using hand tools and air pneumatic tooling.
  • Ability to use and read WPS Precision measuring equipment.
  • Knowledge or history of rotary converting platforms (RCP) is helpful.

Physical Demands

  • Lifting of up to 40 pounds.
  • Sitting and/or standing for long periods of time (2-4 hours before a rest or change).
  • There are rapid repetitive motions of the hands and wrist for 2–4-hour periods.
  • Repetitive back, wrists, arm, shoulder, elbow, and finger movements occur continuously.
  • Ability to drive a forklift in a nosy environment.
  • Working in an industrial environment
  • Occasional squatting, kneeling or climbing.
  • Excellent eyesight and hearing
  • Constant hand use, grasping and fine manipulation throughout the day.
  • Lift 51+ pounds sporadically throughout the day and may be done with assistance. ​​​​​​​

  • MIG/TIG experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Willing to do standard production work at times
  • Computer fluency
  • Motivated, self-directed individual who can work individually and with minimal direction
