Position Summary
The Sales Estimator is responsible for supporting the Preco contract manufacturing operations with a focus on rotary die-cutting, web converting, and assembly processes. This role is critical in developing accurate, timely, and competitive quotations that align with customer requirements and internal capabilities.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for custom die-cut, converted, and assembled parts based on customer drawings, specifications, and RFQs.
- Design basic web paths for rotary die-cutting and web converting processes, including multi-layer lamination and part removal steps.
- Analyze part geometry and production requirements to recommend tooling and process approaches.
- Estimate feed rates, machine speeds, changeover times, and line efficiency to calculate per-part costs.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and sourcing teams to validate assumptions and ensure manufacturability.
- Use ERP and quoting systems to document and maintain cost estimates and job records.
- Source and cost appropriate materials (films, adhesives, liners, tapes, etc.) based on customer specs or internal standards.
- Support the sales team by identifying cost drivers and proposing alternative designs or material options to optimize pricing.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of converting materials and technologies.
- Other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Job Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in estimating or process engineering in a contract manufacturing or converting environment.
- Strong understanding of rotary die-cutting, laminating, slitting, part removal, and assembly operations.
- Working knowledge of common converting materials, including polymeric films (PET, PE, PU, etc.), pressure-sensitive adhesives, release liners, and specialty papers.
- Proficiency with estimating software, Excel, and ERP/MRP systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and customer specifications.
- Excellent math, analytical, and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and project coordination abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and cost modeling.
- CAD or 2D layout experience to visualize or communicate web paths.
- Familiarity with medical, automotive, electronics, or industrial OEM markets.
