Applications Development Engineer

Reports to: VP of Technology Development

Position Summary

The Applications Development Engineer provides technical support to Sales, Production, Engineering and Quality teams.  The work on operations, improving processes, efficiency, productivity, and sales volume.  They will also interface with other Preco technology groups as needed.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Organizes and completes process development demonstrations, complex test studies and research using DOE concepts.
  2. Determines feasibility of new/difficult applications.
  3. Regularly analyzes services provided for customers to develop new ways to better satisfy customer needs (new/different equipment and processes, alternative work methods, improved quality/service, etc.).
  4. Assists sales and engineering in producing accurate quotations/estimates and proposals. 
  5. Assists Manufacturing Engineering and Quality in writing technical, quality and production procedures.
  6. Writes technical reports for internal and external customers.
  7. Completes Optical specifications and assists in System acceptance agreements for the LED division.
  8. Leads the process development and execution of system FAT’s for the LED division.
  9. Assist and may lead in execution of system SAT’s at customer site if needed.
  10. Assist in creating Data sheets for the CMS division.
  11. Improves existing laser processes and explores new laser applications.
  12. Provides technical leadership and mentorship to CMS production.
  13. Assists in specifying, justifying, and acquiring new equipment, reworks/improves existing equipment.
  14. Provides technical support by visiting customers at their facilities. 
  15. Completes other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  16. Participates in cross-functional project teams.
  17. Designs, organizes, and completes training programs.
  18. Manages specific “Target Market” Production/Process development activities.
  19. Shows demonstrated expertise in target market or process area.
  20. Participates in Designing, organizing, implementation and helps maintain workflow systems to enhance shop productivity, efficiency and sales volume.
  21. Participates in system design reviews.
  22. Various other duties as directed by supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • Associate degree with five years industrial experience.
  • Ability to read blueprints and specifications.
  • Good interpersonal, leadership, written communication and computer skills.
  • Understanding of laser processing methods, material science, CNC programming, dimensional tolerancing.
  • 5% travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four-year engineering degree (material science preferred) with two years industrial experience.
  • DOE experience.

Physical Demands

  • Standing for long periods of time (1-8 hours per day), frequent working on and around equipment.
  • Excellent eyesight and able to distinguish colors.
  • Constant hand use, grasping, and fine manipulation throughout the day.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds comfortably.
