Quality Engineer II

Department: Contract Manufacturing Services (CMS)
Reports to: Quality Manager

Position Summary

The Quality Engineer II plays a key role in ensuring the quality and reliability of Preco’s manufacturing processes and products. This position collaborates closely with operations, engineering, program managers, and other stakeholders to support the delivery of high-quality products that meet customer expectations.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Provide quality support to manufacturing operations to ensure compliance with standards and drive continuous improvement.
  2. Interface with New Product Introduction (NPI) teams and lead validation and PPAP activities to ensure compliance with customer specifications and quality standards.
  3. Collaborate directly with customers to identify, address, and resolve quality-related issues, ensuring customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.
  4. Lead root cause analysis efforts and drive the implementation of effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence.
  5. Lead Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) activities to ensure the accuracy and reliability of measurement systems.
  6. Utilizing Lean Six Sigma tools, participate in continuous improvement projects, driving efficiency, scrap reductions and customer complaint reduction.
  7. Author and implement incoming and in-process inspection/control plans.
  8. Lead the Material Review Board and oversee the disposition of non-conforming components and assemblies.
  9. Partner with suppliers to resolve quality issues, qualify new components, and communicate quality requirements.
  10. Utilize Capability Analysis (CpK) to assess the capability of critical dimensions and troubleshoot any non-capable processes.
  11. Proactively identify and mitigate potential quality risks to ensure product excellence.
  12. Conduct internal and external quality audits to drive continuous improvement and promote best practices.
  13. Utilize pFMEA to conduct risk analysis on processes and mitigate high-risk items.
  14. Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced QA engineers, when applicable.
  15. Evaluate product and/or process changes for impact on quality.
  16. Assists in designing, organizing, and facilitating employee training programs.
  17. Completes other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • 4-year engineering/technical degree with equivalent experience.
  • 8 or more years of quality-related experience.
  • Strong background in statistics, quality inspection methods, inspection equipment, AQL and ISO 9001, 13485 and/or SQF Edition 9.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, leadership, written communication, and computer skills.
  • 10% travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in product and/or process qualification efforts, including PPAP, First Article, FMEA, Control Plan, Gage Capability Studies, etc.
  • Supplier quality experience
  • Certified Auditor
  • A good understanding of laser processing equipment and methods and dimensional tolerancing is desired.
  • Background in welding, specifically in laser welding, is highly beneficial but not required

Physical Demands

  • Handling and near vision- over 4 hours a day.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs., talking, hearing, and working alone 3-5 hours a day.
  • Walking and reading 2-3 hours a day.
  • Standing, sitting, stooping and crouching up to 4 hours a day.
