Quality Engineer

Position Title: Quality Engineer
Department: Contract Manufacturing Services 
Reports to: Director of CMS Engineering and Quality

Position Summary

Provide technical Quality Engineering support for Contract Manufacturing Services and/or Lazer Equipment Division relative to all departments interacting with the manufacture of product and supplier support.  Carries out a responsive quality effort to process profitable customer orders and helps Preco exceed customers’ expectations.  Works on operations, improving profitability, efficiency, and productivity.  Interfaces with Sales, Engineering, Production, and other business units.   Assists the Director of CMS Engineering and Quality to drive and foster a continuous improvement environment throughout the organization.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Develops and implements methods and procedures for the disposition of discrepant material.  Identify CAPA opportunities.
  2. Leader of CAPA teams.
  3. Coordination of inspection and testing methods and sampling plans.
  4. Leader or Team Member representing quality and assuring quality on new product development projects.
  5. Leader or Team Member of quality improvement projects to reduce costs and reduce customer complaints.
  6. Evaluate product and/or process changes for impact on quality.
  7. Leader or Team Member of proactive efforts in product quality and process capability improvement.
  8. May be designated as SQF Practitioner Backup.
  9. Specifies and maintains necessary inspection and testing equipment to ensure conformance to customer specifications.
  10. Performs internal auditing functions.
  11. Develop new ways to better satisfy customer needs (new/different equipment, alternative work methods, improved quality/service, etc.) using Lean Six Sigma.
  12. Leader of product and/or process qualification efforts, including customer requirements such as PPAP, First Article, FMEA, Control Plan, Gage Capability Studies, etc. 
  13. Provides periodic quality summary reports using statistical analysis CpK, SPC.
  14. Educates/trains employees on quality and continuous improvement concepts.
  15. Assists in designing, organizing, and facilitating employee training programs.
  16. Oversees technical writing projects concerning quality and production procedures.
  17. Visit suppliers and initiate supplier quality evaluations/supplier corrective actions.
  18. Completes other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • 4-year engineering/technical degree (preferred) or two-year technical degree with equivalent experience.
  • 4 or more years of quality-related experience.
  • Strong background in statistics, quality inspection methods, inspection equipment, AQL and ISO 9001, 13485 and/or SQF Edition 9.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, leadership, written communication, and computer skills.
  • Good understanding of laser processing equipment and methods and dimensional tolerancing desired.
  • 10% travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certificate is strongly preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Handling and near vision (over 4 hrs per day)
  • Lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs., talking, hearing, and working alone 3-5 hours a day.
  • Walking and reading 2-3 hours a day.
  • Standing, sitting, stooping, and crouching for up to 4 hours a day.
