Applications Engineer

Position Title: Applications Engineer
Department: Manufacturing
Reports to: Rotary Production Manager

Position Summary 

The applications engineer will provide a bridge for software continuity, mechanical improvements, and drive research and development programs.  This individual will drive new application development opportunities based on customer requests. This individual shall correlate and depict the core competencies and processing capabilities of our systems internally and externally.  

Primary Responsibilities 

  1. Provide technical support to the rotary product line for the design, specification, and build of standard and custom rotary machinery.
  2. Create 2D and 3D concept diagrams.
  3. Ability to operate and adjust the machine during debugging.
    • Use of HMI touchscreen to modify system parameters.
    • Apply web handling mechanics thru machine settings.
    • Material science investigation and implementation.
    • Utilize tool and roll handling equipment to load/unload machinery.
  4. Facilitate and demonstrate our portfolio solutions to clients in collaboration with regional sales managers.
  5. Collaborate on quoting process.
  6. Review customer engineering drawings and specifications, provide analysis and tolerance acceptance, suggest “outside the box” ideas, and organize/maintain documentation history.
  7. Execute equipment inspection procedures and document responses.
  8. Perform factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing.
    • Coordinate activities
    • Documentation of issues/resolutions
    • Excellent customer interface skill set
  9. Drafting and machine drawing completion when working with mechanical engineering team.
  10. Implement design of experiments and execute customer-based studies utilizing in-house demonstration equipment.
  11. Perform assembly of mechanical components.
  12. Build relationships with equipment and tooling suppliers, customers, and prospective clients.
  13. Attend Manufacturing and vision training courses and webinars.
  14. Attend Industry trade shows, conferences, networking opportunities, and workshops to showcase our technology.
  15. Work closely with mechanical/electrical/software engineers to ensure customer specifications are met.
  16. Provide risk assessment for safety hazards in machine design and build.
  17. Any other related tasks assigned by the Rotary product manager based on daily operations.

Hiring Qualifications

  • Associate of Applied Sciences degree in Drafting or a similar field or 5 years of experience in a related environment/industry.
  • Intermediate proficiency in AutoCAD and Solidworks.
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings / mechanical prints / GD&T.
  • CNC experience and capabilities are a plus.
  • CMM inspection knowledge is a plus.
  • Great communicator with excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Exceptional time and work management skills so you can work on multiple projects and thrive in a self-directed work environment.
    • Team project driver to ensure progress milestones and on-time delivery.
    • Self-starter, innovative, punctual, motivated, enthusiastic, with a willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office, computers, statistical analysis, and electrical basics will be required.
  • Willingness to travel for work domestically with potential for international travel.
